September 16, 2012 under the kitchen table

Tonight is the first night of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and apparently one hour of family services at temple was just too much for my little party girl. After an hour of the services, which was complete with lively music, a fun story by the rabbi and four trips to the bathroom, we came home to dip some apples in honey (a Jewish tradition symbolizing the hope for a sweet new year), and then the real fun began. Eliza started melting down because she had completed the scratch art project I found for the girls today in the $1 section at Target and insisted that I either give her a new one or give her the one I gave to Ava (big sister) to finish. The constant chorus from me of "I don't have any more and Ava is finishing her own" didn't have any bearing on the situation, so instead I chose to ignore her and finish reading the Vanity Fair article on Tom Cruise and "wife auditioning" (which I highly recommend reading) at the kitchen table. I knew once she crawled under the table to try and get my attention - and I not being able to be bothered because I really needed to know more about Nicole Kidman being labeled as a Suppressive Person by Scientologists - we would most likely have a crash. Three minutes later and voila.

To those who observe, wishing you a very happy, healthy and restful new year.

September 2, 2012 in the bathroom

Today we hosted a BBQ for Eliza's soccer team (Go Pink Panthers!) and their families. We started cleaning up immediately after everyone left and found our sleepy little kicker in her bathroom about 5 minutes later. I'd say it was a good party.
